A Suitable Boy Review – Netflix

Directors: Mira Nair, Shimit Amin

Cast: Tanya Maniktala, Ishaan Khatter, Tabu, Ram Kapoor, Namit Das

Being a fan of novels, I have read many novels by Vikram Seth, and Suitable Boy Is one of my favourite novels. A Suitable Boy is Surprisingly a very good coming of age Romantic Period Drama. Adapted by Andrew Davies from Vikram Seth’s 1993 novel of the same name.

Where Tabu was excellent and did the justice with the character. Ishaan was really a revelation. Every time a character slipped off, my heart also went on top-notch.

We, in young India, has brought many changes, but the patriarchal society and struggle to find a daughter their perfect match is still the same. Lata played by Tanya Maniktala is a student determined not to let her traditional mother choose her husband. Maan is a rebellious person who falls for a Ghazal singer, Saeeda Begum & is considerably older than him.

Although at some point, I felt the plot couldn’t do them justice with the novel but the theme, characters and the music makes it worth watching.
The star cast of this series is large and exciting & I guess everyone’s done justice to the characters they’ve portrayed.

From Tanya to Tabu, and Ishaan to Ram Kapoor, Rasika Duggal & Randeep Hooda, everyone felt pretty likeable throughout the screentime they’ve had.
